Welcome from thePrincipal

A very warm welcome to The Folkestone School for Girls.

Exam results are what you get. They do not define who you are and will play only a part in shaping the person you become.

That message is writ large across everything we do at FSG. It’s at the very heart of our vision for an outstanding quality of education and it's at the very heart of our school curriculum.

So, if exam results don’t define you then an obvious question is what does? It’s hard to argue with R. J Palacio, author of ‘Wonder’ and her assertion that:

“Courage, Kindness, Friendship, Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.”

We would add a few more to that list - teamwork, service, resilience, leadership, wisdom, integrity…

PE at the Folkestone school for Girls has been very fun throughout my 5 years at this school: it has taught me new skills. I have become very confident over these years and I have really enjoyed it. Through taking GCSE PE, I have had the opportunity to become a Sport leader which has made me gain new skills in leadership.

I love going to FSG, as there is always something to do! I always look forward to going to my next lesson whether that’s Music or Maths. In addition to the lessons, there are so many extra curricular activities that I get involved in: The Combined Cadet Force, Saxophone and Piano lessons or being a Send My Friend to School Campaign Champion. I’ve been a part of many other clubs throughout school so far, there are so many to choose from! Through FSGBacc I’ve also had the opportunity to try archery, mountain biking and rock climbing. All these amazing opportunities will help me with my current career aspirations of being a forensic psychologist or a neuroscientist! I cannot wait to see how the next few years go and what else I can get involved in.

Future Actor
In the future I hope to be an actress, but I also have three other passions, these are: running, art and maths. Being a pupil at FSG means that while I can pursue acting, I can also practice my running, take art to new and interesting levels and hopefully study maths all the way to A-level. This will lead me to have many options in the future, perhaps drama school or university. FSG has never failed to encourage me and allow me to explore more than one ambition.

Future Programmer
I’m Ruby and I have been doing school cheer since year 7 and competed in 2020 with the school and did cheer again in year 9 after covid. In year 8, I completed a coaches course and so in year 10, I helped my teacher coach the school team and we attended 'Schools Out', a national competition, coming 3rd. Cheer at school has helped me make new friends, in my year as well as others, and has given me something to look forward to through school. Outside of school I have been competing for 9 years, including competing in places up and down the UK as well as Paris and Florida for a completion that you could only go to if you had won a bid, 'The Summit'. Cheer has taught me teamwork, resilience and commitment which are essential to everyday life. Many people think its about pom-poms but all-star cheer is about stunts, tumbling, dance as well as jumps and performance. This has taught me that to get a good result you have to work hard and be patient as well as trust yourself and your teammates.

My experience with music and the arts at FSG has influenced my life in every aspect; I’ve found my passions in instruments and music; I’ve made so many friends I wouldn’t have ever even met without music; I’ve had amazing experiences with performances, I’ve developed confidence while doing what I love and so much more. Music and art means so much to be and I’m so glad that I have the privilege to be so involved in it while learning and having fun! Getting involved with things like this at school opens such a wide range of opportunities and really shows what the Folkestone School for Girls is all about.

Since we started ‘Global hits’, a radio show that plays international music, I’ve realised just how diverse music really is. Getting requests to play songs from various unique countries has opened my eyes to different genres of music that I’ve never even heard of but have ended up loving. The radio has also grown my confidence overall, and winning Young Audio Awards has helped me learn not to be so afraid of trying new things - you never know how far it may take you.
