We were very proud to continue the tradition of performing brilliantly in examinations this summer. Last year, the Government introduced a new measure based entirely on progress to judge a school’s performance - called Progress 8. Many people thought this would mean non-selective schools would outperform grammar schools, as the prior ability of pupils is less relevant. However, in terms of this progress measure we are pleased to report that we are in the top category of schools nationally with a score of +0.67. Well done everyone!

This academic year was one of great change, as GCSE students across the country sat new specification (9-1) examinations in English Language, Literature & Mathematics for the first time.

This summer we have our normal list of trainees, cover staff, temporary staff and others who are leaving (see list below) and we wish them all the best for the future. This year however, I would like to draw your attention to some very important, long served members of staff who are also leaving.

Over the last week or so, we have been treated to some stunning performances in a number ofdisciplines.

The Dance show was amazing and was a compilation of the exam pieces performed by our A level and GCSE dance students.

It is always interesting to see how students interpret the topic they have been allocated and to see the personal touches that they incorporate into their dances. It was hard to believe that it was a

school show that we were watching - we could have been in the West End!

We were delighted to perform so strongly in public examinations again this summer.

The Government recently introduced a new measure based entirely on progress to judge a school’s performance - called Progress 8. Many people thought this would mean grammar schools would do less well as the prior ability of pupils is irrelevant. However, in terms of this new progress measure we are pleased to report that we are in the top 5% of schools nationally with a score of +0.52.

Well done everyone!

This year we celebrated our best ever set of results with some 48% of GCSE grades at A*/A and some 54% grades A*/B at A Level.

In combination with outstanding attainment, our consistently high value added scores and the outstanding levels of progress made by students from all starting points, places us amongst the very best schools in the country year on year.

The chart below provides a brief snapshot of the outstanding results achieved this summer.

We have worked hard to maintain all of the key elements of the school which you know well: teaching, exam preparation, sports fixtures, concerts, drama productions, trips etc. But on top of that we have been preparing for major changes which are already impacting on secondary education.

The examination period is well and truly upon us, as those of you with daughters in Y10-13 will know.

It has been a very busy time so far with all of the normal examination preparation activities taking place, alongside more traditional events.

The Drama department provided hard-hitting and original productions early in the term, which were enjoyed by all and were not quite as ‘black’ as is often the case.

We seem to have packed a great deal in to the weeks since Christmas.

Mock examinations, concerts, theatre and curriculum trips, university visits, drama productions, Parents’ Evenings and of course the normal day to day learning, have meant that we have all been exceptionally busy.

We were particularly delighted to be named as the Top School in Kent in the KS4 Performance Tables and perhaps even more delighted to receive feedback from the Department for Education which shows that not only do we achieve extremely high standards, but that the ‘progress’ our students make is also outstanding.

Again this is the result of a team effort which encompasses great support from parents, expert teaching and lots of hard work from our very talented girls.

We were very pleased to achieve 100% 5A*-C including English and Mathematics again this summer. This means that only one girl has failed to meet this standard in the last 5 years which is a truly remarkable achievement. Post 16 students also performed extremely well.
